Canon EOS 1D Mark IV - 10 fps shots test

I set the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV's JPEG as small very low quality with 10fps. I used my Sandisk EXTREME IV UDMA (45 MB/s) 16GB for high read/write performance cameras. I pressed shutter button for about 3 minutes and this machine stores 1780 pictures, but the machine's buffer can be enough for storing more pictures. It performs exactly 10fps for 1780 pictures. The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV is a really press machine and very high performance for buffering and storing so many images.

Toolkit For The Digital Photographer Part One - Software

!±8± Toolkit For The Digital Photographer Part One - Software

Just as a wood-working artisan has special chisels for his trade, every working professional digital photographer has over time put together his own "toolkit."

On the software or post production end, these are necessities:

1) "Rescue Pro" software is something no one wants to think about, but in the real world, is a necessity. The digital photographer who foolishly thinks it will never happen to him, just needs to be burned once and he'll become a believer.

If you buy a SanDisk high-end memory card like those "Extreme III or IV" variety, not only is there a lifetime warranty, but they also ship with this file recovery utility.

Never wait till you have an actual corrupted file to test the software. The best thing you can do is after you're done downloading and archiving your images, erase and format the memory card. Then launch this file recovery utility to see how many of those images can be recovered.

Remember, Dirty Harry said, "Man's got to know his limitations."

2) Genuine Fractals or Extensis' Smart Pixel. Either one of these photoshop plug-ins allow you to scale up a image which you might have shot with perhaps an old camera which didn't have the megapixels you need for a huge print.

3) Picture Code's Noise Ninja.() This plug-in with Photoshop reduces the inherent noise in digital images shot in high ISO.

4) Finally, a disk utility application like Disk Warrior or Micromat's Tech Tool Pro and that install disk that came with your computer should be included in that toolkit. These applications are for the Macintosh platform but I'm certain there are similar counterparts in the Windows world.

If your internal hard drive crashes and you can't boot up, these dvds or cds can be your only salvation. What these discs allow you to do is boot up your computer, attempt to repair or "band-aid" the hard drive allowing you to safely download your data from your suspect internal hard drive.

A One-Stop Review Of The HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t

!±8± A One-Stop Review Of The HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t

One thing that you need to know about the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t is that this is not a machine for those people who are not willing to take big strides. If you are looking for the most basic model, then you should be willing to part with ,900. To be honest, I was also surprised at first when I came across the price tag. I wondered what would make this computer to sell at such an expensive price that would rival that of an Apple product. I guess that you too are probably asking yourself that same question. Well, I hope that after reading and understanding this particular article, you will have found an answer to that question.

The first thing that you need to know about the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t is that it comes equipped with the latest core i7 processor. I do know that ever since Intel stopped producing the Pentium I - IV series, a lot of people who are not into high-tech stuff got confused. The core i7 is the latest after core i5 and core i3. The main strong point of the core i7 is the fact that it has got a very great ability to minimize on the power consumption while at the same time ensuring that the performance of the machine is not compromised in any way.

Apart form saving power and handling a lot heavy duties, the core i7 processor is the ultimate choice for those people who are into multitasking a lot. About the RAM, you will have with you the stunning DDR3 memory which compliments the core i7 on power consumption. The HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t might seem like a computer which is obsessed with saving energy and stuff like that. To someone who really does not care much about the power, then this might be a pretty small achievement. However when it comes to those people who love the environment and do care about over reliance on foreign energy, you can be pretty sure that the machine will sell like hot cake.

There are just too many good things about the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t for all of them to be mentioned in one review. There are many other things about speed, longevity, and performance. However, whether or not you should settle on buying this machine will entirely depend on what your needs and your budget are. This is not a decision that you can make without taking these two things into consideration.

Selecting the Best Memory Card

!±8± Selecting the Best Memory Card

Buying a memory card

Buying a memory card is the last thing you need to do before you can start taking photographs. Having already spent time deciding on a cameras the memory card is usually a choice that photogrpahers want to get over and done with quickly, which is quite understandable as it is only the recording medium.

Mercifully there are not many considerations. But consider them you must and these considerations are.

What type of card (This is easy).

How much storage (Down to the length of your photo shoots).

What write speed (decided by the performance of your camera)

Types of memory cards

Compact Flash, Secure Digital and Memory Stick

The above types of card form the basis of literally all card fits. In particular Compact Flash and Secure Digital with Memory sticks being a their own fitting from Sony which they have used in a variety of their electronics goods.

There used to be a bit of a standards war but this has very much settled down now.

There are other types of card such as 'micro SD' but these are a type of Secure Digital card and can be used with a plastic carrier.

Your camera will most likely take one of these fits. If it doesn't, your choice will be limited but you should still heed the following points.

Storage space

How many exposures

Like all digital recording mediums, memory cards have a certain level of storage space. More storage means more cost but its usually not proportional. However before you buy the largest card you can find or afford, consider that if the card corrupts you lose that many more photos. For those going on holiday, do they REALLY want to risk losing all their holiday shots because they were on the same card?

How big are the images, 10Meg, 25Mg?....How often will you take the photos off the card and into your PC/mac.... If its often say after an evenings shoot then a massive card may well be pointless. Will you be shooting dozens of frames per minute? I shoot live music. Maybe 2 shots per minute. I find I am unlikely to fill more than one 4 gig card per average shoot. I have 4 x 4Gb cards for festivals etc... If I have a PC with me then the PC can retrieve photos while I continue to shoot.

The size of the cameras memory card decision is very much down to your workflow.

Memory Cards read and write speeds

How fast can your camera save images to a memory card.

To achieve optimum performance from your digital camera you need to match the card's read/write speed to the upper limit of the camera.

The cheapest card in your chosen size and fit may not be the best choice for you and likewise buying a blisteringly fast card may be a waste of your resources.

Sandisk used to call their cards Ultra, UltraII, Extreme III, Extreme IV etc which denoted speed.

Normal Sandisk (blue card) 3MB/s- Low end compact cameras Ultra II 15mb/s (soon to be 'Ultra') - High end compact cameras Extreme III 30mb/s(soon to be 'Extreme') - D-SLRs ExtremeIV 45mb/s(soon to be 'Extreme Pro') - Pro D-SLRS

If your PC or mac does not have a memory card slot (many do btw) then you will require a USB card reader.

Sandisk USB 2.0 readers work at 30MB/s and 35MB/S. If you had extreme IV cards then you would need a Sandisk Firewire 800 reader, however Apple Mac compatibility has in the past been problematic. USB 3.0 is just around the corner and it is likely that Sandisk will release a faster USB reader.

Speed classes also describe how cards handle video -

Sandisk have supplied the figures below to help with establishing which memory cards you need. Image file sizes vary betweeen manufacturers and cameras so check you camera manual for a more conclusive details.

Average Number of Raw Images

When considering buying memory cards you may wish to refer to this table

If your image file size is approx 24mb

64GB - 2080 images 32GB - 1040 images 16GB - 550 images 8GB - 260 images 4GB - 130 images

If your image file size is approx 18mb

64GB - 2880 images 32GB - 1440 images 16GB - 7200 images 8GB - 260 images 4GB - 130 images

If your image file size is approx 14mb

64GB - 3840 images 32GB - 1920 images 16GB - 960 images 8GB - 480 images 4GB - 240 images

If your image file size is approx 10mb

64GB - 5120 images 32GB - 2560 images 16GB - 1280 images 8GB - 640 images 4GB - 320 images
